Well, my honey man wanted a beer cake for his

birthday so I tried a recipe from Edna Staebler's More Food That Really Schmecks. She's one of my favorites for desserts. This was unusual in that it involved melting the butter with the beer - I'm thinking of Harry Potter- and adding currants and letting them soak. There were also hazelnuts in the cake and the icing was honey mixed with icing sugar. I added some lemon zest and a bit of lemon juice just 'cause I like that. As you can see from Hazel's face it was very well received. My freshly made beeswax birthday candles looked so sweet they almost got eaten. I

really could live on cake - oh wait - what a

bout pie......... how about both.
